National consultations on development of Zambia Micro-credentials Framework

The Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) co-organises with the project "African Continental Qualifications Framework" (ACQF-II), the stakeholder consultative workshop to brainstorm on the Zambia micro-credentials policy framework. The workshop will discuss policy scenarios for the development and recognition of micro-credentials in Zambia.

It will take place in Lusaka, on the 25th of March 2026, at a Radisson Blue Hotel.

The stakeholder consultative workshop was conceived from the review of the Zambia Qualifications Framework (ZQF) which was approved in October 2025. During the review of the ZQF, stakeholders underscored the need for a national framework to guide the development, offering and recognition of micro-credentials in Zambia.

Further, stakeholders acknowledged the growing interest in the country in understanding how micro-credentials could be mapped to the ZQF to enhance skills development and recognition, employability, and lifelong learning. Therefore, as an initial step towards generating this understanding, surveys were conducted in December 2024 and January-February 2026 with a view to establishing the state-of-play of micro-credentials and skills development and uptake in the country.

Thus, the stakeholder consultative workshop will build on the findings of the aforementioned surveys.

ACQF-II is a project of the African Union-European Union partnership, implemented by the European Training Foundation, in close cooperation with countries, regions and the African Union Commission.

Participants

The workshop will draw participants from among other stakeholders; policy makers, appropriate authorities, education and training institutions, industry and employers, professional bodies and industry associations, as well as from ZAQA.

Output of the Workshop

The output of the workshop will be a feasible scenario for Zambia's national micro-credentials policy framework agreed with stakeholders. The agreed scenario will provide the basis for preparation of a draft Zambia micro-credentials framework comprising policy and guidelines for further consideration by a Technical Working Group, and national validation.
