SADC TVET Symposium 2023

The SADC TVET Symposium 2023 is convened on 8-9 May, in Johannesburg to promote TVET as an integral part of efforts to enhance skills and employability and ultimately sustainable and inclusive development in a context of accelerated transformation. The Symposium is organised by SADC Secretariat in cooperation with the project ACQF-II implemented by the European Training Foundation (ETF), and with expert contribution of ILO and UNESCO.

Interpretation: English-French-Portuguese.

Visit the SADC-ACQF cooperation page for more information on activities and reports (2022).

The agenda, the 4 Concept notes and presentations of this Symposium can be viewed or downloaded from this page (open: "Agenda" and "Materials").

The TVET Symposium seeks to promote skills development to enhance access to productive employment and entrepreneurship, especially among young people, and to improve productivity in the region. The Symposium will identify key enablers and constraints operating in the TVET sector and propose practical solutions. The Symposium will also facilitate peer learning and exchanges on what has worked in the Member States and in other parts of the world.

Among other issues and drawing from delegates’ practical experiences, the dialogue will address pertinent issues such as:

  1. Rethinking TVET governance and financing systems;
  2. Aligning TVET with labour market needs and industrialisation processes;
  3. Articulation of TVET Qualifications; and
  4. Equipping TVET to deliver skills for Just Transitions and the Future of Work.
