This week the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) started its KNQA Mashinani (go to the people) program. The program which aims at taking the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) to stakeholders all over the country has organized one day workshops in Kisumu, Nakuru and Nyeri between now and end of 2021. Early next year, the Authority will hold meetings in Mombasa, Eldoret, Meru and Garissa. During the workshops Authority staff make short presentations about the framework to stakeholders (who are mostly made up of heads of TVET institutions and Universities, County Government staff, directors of education and any other interested parties). The forums are widely publicized on local radio stations and all events are live on Facebook. During the forums, discussions are held about issues that are not clear, and how the framework can help institutions improve the quality, relevance and access to qualifications.

At the western Kenya event held at Kisumu National Polytechnic on 4th November, 2021, 73 stakeholders attended and asked that Competence based education and training as well as assessment and certification be entrenched into the TVET and University education sectors in the country. They called for harmony and coordination between qualifications awarded by various Qualifications awarding institutions especially in the TVET sector, and sought to know more on how to access the various services offered by the KNQA.
